Michael O’Brien is President and CEO of the National Lumber & Building Material Dealers Association (NLBMDA), the national association representing lumber and building material dealers throughout the U.S. Mike has over 20 years of experience in housing and building industry trade associations. In his current position, Mike directs the daily activities of NLBMDA, including government relations, federation relations, member services, public relations and finance and administration.
Prior to joining NLBMDA in 2008, Mike was Chief Operating Officer of the Manufactured Housing Institute (MHI), the national trade association representing all segments of the manufactured and modular housing industries. In his position, Mike oversaw MHI’s government relations, federation relations, technical activities, economic and statistical forecasting, membership development and educational activities.
Prior to joining MHI in 1999, Mike spent the previous 10 years at the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) where he was the Assistant Vice President for State and Local Association Services. At NAHB, his responsibilities included assisting NAHB’s 850 state and local associations with membership marketing, state and local government affairs, field operations and leadership development. He also created NAHB’s Labor, Safety & Health Services Department and spearheaded development of the association’s first safety and health initiatives.
Mike has also worked as a lobbyist for the American Subcontractors Association, the national association for specialty trade contractors, and members of Congress and the British House of Commons. He has received his Certified Association Executive (CAE) designation from the American Society of Association Executives.
