Maximizing the Value of Your Business Through Succession Planning

Over 90% of business owners do not know what their business is worth, yet almost 80% of them plan to fund their retirement by selling their business. With the ongoing health crisis, it is more important than ever to begin planning early for a successful ownership transfer. In this breakout session, we will address how to build an effective succession plan that enables you to create a business with predictable profits and growth. This will help you to increase the value of your business, with the ultimate goal of a successful transition for the outgoing owner(s), the incoming owner(s), and the community and customers you serve.

If you are interested in learning more about maximizing the value of your business please take 10 minutes to complete this 18 question initial assessment.  Answers to questions are confidential and we will walk through how to unlock the potential of the resulting Discover Report during this breakout session.

General Session Keynote - Tim Costello

Since March, most business owners and executives have been heads down in survival mode. COVID shook our world and has been responsible for a massive resetting of the table. Economic winners and losers, K shaped recoveries, decoupling of equity markets from main street, acceleration of consumer trends and an unparalleled rate of change within businesses. What we offer, how we sell, communicate and relate to our customers has all been challenged in a time frame which seems impossible just one year ago. But now that the shock and initial response are behind us, and we can see our way to a post COVID world, are we ready? What have we learned and where do we go from here? This session may just give you the courage to embrace the new normal and build a more prosperous future around it.

Welcome & Opening Remarks | 7 Lessons for the Age of Shared Leadership

In this talk Hancock Lumber CEO and author Kevin Hancock will discuss his new book THE SEVENTH POWER – ONE CEO’S JOURNEY INTO THE BUSINESS OF SHARED LEADERSHIP.

In 2010 Kevin acquired a rare voice disorder that often made speaking difficult. In 2012 Kevin began visiting the remote Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in South Dakota. There he discovered an entire community that did not feel fully heard.

These two events propelled Kevin to re-engineer his company around the concepts of shared leadership and dispersed power. Kevin then set out on a travel odyssey that took him from the Arizona desert to Kiev, Ukraine in search of a broader understanding of the past, present, and future of leadership. That adventure produced a series of ‘lessons’ that Kevin came to believe formed the pathway to a new organizational model fueled by The Seventh Power.
Kevin will share these seven learnings and how he specifically applied them to help re-invent a 173 year old lumber company in Maine.

Housing and Economic Outlook

Dr. Robert Dietz, Chief Economist of the National Assocation of Home Builders, will provide a forecast of the economy and the housing/construction markets as the nation looks to 2021 and a recovery from the Covid-19 crisis. While the overall economy's rebound is likely to be uneven, housing data have been relatively stronger. However, supply-side limitations threaten the pace of building and remodeling including material pricing and skilled labor availability. Dietz will also examine long-term demographic trends that are supporting housing demand, and detail financial and monetary policy conditions that will influence home builder conditions. His analysis will include geographic analysis of the "suburban shift" that favors new construction.
