While leveraging unique guerilla tactics on horseback, his 12-man team successfully outmaneuvered the full military force of the enemy side to a historic victory. In the rapidly changing world of technology how does the construction industry and the LBM ensure that the investments made in technology, systems and processes do not become obsolete, or hinder future growth?  No one individual, company, or software can predict, nor control the future, however as the construction industry becomes more “digitized” we can look to other industries who have already embraced their digital footprint and observe the benefits they have achieved through an open, sharing and choice platform.  Digital interoperability between the designers, architects, engineers, builders, & the supply chain (take off, proposal, manufacturing and  billing) can present itself in a variety of different flavors to achieve the benefits of “vertical integration” without the requirement of being on a single software stack.  Come hear some very pragmatic & practical solutions which can provide immediate value today, yet still maintain a competitive position for growth tomorrow and into the future.

9:15 am - 10:15 am                      How to Compete in the Age of Amazon
Atlantic Ballroom C                     Speakers:  John Maiuri, ECi Software Solutions LBM and Hardlines                                                       Group, Building and Construction Division President

It’s no secret that the growing impact of the “Amazon effect” is widespread. What was once simply an online book retailer is now the “everything store” and business services provider – and the company continues to expand. With seemingly endless inventory, rapid delivery and its own logistics service offerings, Amazon has up-ended the ecommerce game and proven it is a force to be reckoned with. The shift is akin to the one that Home Depot caused when it first started to expand globally. Local hardware stores and hardware stores within LBM operations were forced to drastically change their business models and embrace this industry evolution, or otherwise plan to close their doors. Similarly, LBM dealers must now consider the same options as Amazon’s impact ripples through the industry.

In this session, John Maiuri – ECi Software Solutions LBM and Hardlines Group, Building and Construction Division President – will draw on his 30+ years of industry experience and knowledge to provide guidance on that decision by offering attendees tips for how they can compete in the age of Amazon. Such tips include:

· Embracing ecommerce as a primary sales channel – and creating the efficient, seamless online experience that customers have come to expect

· Identifying technology and software that will provide dramatic operational and financial efficiencies – while allowing team members the ability to more effectively meet customer needs

· Developing a strategy for attracting the technology-enabled workforce to fuel the company’s competitive advantage
