Jim is the president of The Sterling Lumber & Investment Company, founded in 1909, and currently operating 10 lumber yards, a transportation company, a reload, and a truss plant in Colorado. He has been in the lumber industry for 41 years, working his way from “yard dog” for Payless Cashways up through the ranks to his current position as president of Sterling Lumber. In addition to maintaining the solid business practices to which Sterling has long held fast, Jim has focused on making the adjustments necessary to compete in an ever-changing market, focusing especially on leadership development and utilizing training programs that encourage employees to reach their potential by overcoming the assumed constraints that hold them back. He believes that bringing out the best in employees brings out the best service for customers, and best performance for the company.
Jim and his wife live in Arvada, CO, and he enjoys spending his free time with his 3 children, who also live in the Denver area.
